Module 3:  Phone and Fantasy

After participating in icebreaker games and mindfulness exercises, participants will engage in a discussion about the phenomenon of fantasy within the adoptee. Normalizing the romanticization or demonization of personal stories will be explored. Participants will then engage in a discussion about social media, cell phone use, and how, in a world with increasing exposure due to technological advancement, social media can be safely and responsibly used. The idea of creating a photo narrative about individuals’ fantasies pertaining to adoption will be introduced. Participants will explore the neighborhood as a group and be permitted to take photos of themselves and the surrounding area which they feel pertain to their story. Photos will be uploaded and printed and participants will create a photo collage of their own
images which portrays their particular fantasy about adoption.

Note: This is Module 3 of 4 in the "Creating Roots" series for adoptees age 13-15 offered by BPAR this summer. Group leader Caitlin Woodstock will lead the workshops, each lasting 3 hours from 11am-2pm on Tuesdays: July 17, July 31, August 7 and August 21. Participants my attend any or all of the workshops. Fee is $75 per workshop or $250 for all four workshops. We accept cash, check, and credit card. Payment is due at time of group. RSVP is required.
